Over 3,000 Reasons to Be Excited for the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Hey everyone, I’ve got some incredibly exciting news from the world of arts and culture – the Edinburgh Festival Fringe has just announced its full 2025 lineup, and let me tell you, it’s absolutely massive. We're talking over 3,000 shows across 265 venues, all packed into a wild, artistic celebration that takes over Edinburgh from August 1st to 25th. If you've ever wanted to get completely lost in a whirlwind of creativity, humour, thought-provoking theatre, and all things performance – this is your moment.

This year's programme is as diverse and eclectic as ever, featuring everything from laugh-out-loud comedy and soul-stirring music, to kids' shows, dance, circus, magic, cabaret, and beyond. Some major names are gracing the festival, including the inimitable Miriam Margolyes, the legendary Jenny Eclair, and the ever-brilliant Bill Bailey. So whether you're a Fringe veteran or a first-time festivalgoer, there’s something waiting for you – guaranteed.

The themes running through many of the shows this year are bold and compelling: everything from the apocalypse and rave culture to disability, sexuality, and activism. One standout venue addition is Hibernian FC's Easter Road stadium – how’s that for mixing sport and stage? There’s also a touching cultural moment with “Welcome to the Fringe, Palestine,” a mini-festival hosted at Portobello Town Hall celebrating Palestinian art and voices. It’s this kind of global storytelling that gives the Fringe its unique soul.

Another nostalgic favorite making a comeback is the Famous Spiegeltent, the iconic Belgian wood-and-glass mirrored venue, which will once again take its place in St Andrew Square. Plus, a circus show from an Italian troupe is being hosted in a car park at the Gyle Shopping Centre – proving yet again that at the Fringe, every space can become a stage.

Accessibility has also been taken seriously this year, with several universities stepping up to provide accommodations for performers. On top of that, there are 325 completely free shows and 529 “pay what you can” events. The goal is clear: make this festival as open and inviting as possible, for everyone.

Tony Lankester, the Fringe Society’s chief executive, put it best when he said this year’s programme is about daring to discover. That’s what the Fringe is all about – stepping into the unknown and being rewarded with unforgettable moments of laughter, reflection, and connection.

So, whether you’re intrigued by thought-provoking theatre like Alice Hawkins – Working Class Suffragette or ready to groove with something wild and unpredictable, get ready. The 2025 Fringe isn’t just a festival – it’s an adventure. And it’s calling all of us.
