So, let’s talk about Summer Game Fest 2025 — and wow, what a chaotic mix of excitement, confusion, and pure WTF energy. Geoff Keighley’s annual not-E3 showcase returned, streamed live from L.A.’s YouTube Theater, and honestly? It was a mixed bag. On one hand, we had some massive reveals and pleasant surprises. On the other, there were long stretches of near-boredom punctuated by baffling choices that left everyone scratching their heads.

Let’s start with the good stuff. Easily one of the biggest highlights was Game of Thrones: War for Westeros . This real-time strategy game throws fans into alternate versions of iconic moments from the show, including a jaw-dropping twist where the Night King kills Jon Snow — yes, you heard that right. Kit Harington returns to voice Jon, and the whole thing feels like it’s giving fans a chance to rewrite the series’ controversial finale.

Then, out of nowhere, we got Scott Pilgrim EX , a sequel to the beloved 2010 arcade-style brawler. It’s got seven playable characters, a new story, and the backing of creator Bryan Lee O’Malley. That reveal? Absolutely electric.

Also unexpected but very welcome — Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver . It’s the clan’s first game in over 25 years, and it looks incredible, mixing anime visuals with co-op action-RPG mechanics and a soundtrack curated by Just Blaze. The nostalgia was real.

But it wasn’t all good news. Let’s talk about Deadpool VR . Imagine all the worst aspects of Deadpool’s overexposure crammed into a VR experience with jokes that don’t land and Neil Patrick Harris trying (and not quite succeeding) to sound like Ryan Reynolds. It was underwhelming, to say the least.

And then there was ILL , a grotesque horror game filled with bodycam-style footage, hyper-realistic gore, and — no joke — a creepy undead baby that gets kicked into a filing cabinet. It was horrifying, and not always in a good way.

The weirdest entry might’ve been Felt That: Boxing . Picture this: a muppet Rocky-style boxing game, complete with puppets, a tragic backstory, and music by Flying Lotus. It was like watching Adult Swim in game form — surreal, funny, and just plain bizarre.

Then we had the cringe moment of the night: a developer wearing a “Make FPS Great Again” hat while hyping up Splitgate 2 . It came off as awkward and try-hard, and felt like it missed the entire tone of the show.

But hey, some updates were cool. Street Fighter 6 revealed new DLC characters, Hitman is getting a James Bond crossover with Mads Mikkelsen, and Resident Evil: Requiem was finally unveiled — though they teased fans with a fakeout first.

So overall? Summer Game Fest 2025 had its highs and lows. It wasn’t a knockout, but it definitely gave us moments to talk about — and a few we’ll probably never unsee.
