Tragedy at Royston Park: A Community Demands Answers After Arrest Turns Fatal

According to reports, Kundi became unresponsive during an arrest on Payneham Road around 2:45 a.m. Police say they responded to an altercation between a man and a woman, and allege that Kundi violently resisted arrest. However, his partner, Amritpal Kaur, paints a very different picture. She claims that officers used excessive force, including placing a knee on Kundi’s neck and slamming his head into the pavement and a police vehicle. While police deny these claims, body-worn camera footage from the scene is under review—though one officer’s camera was reportedly dislodged during the scuffle.

South Australia Police Commissioner Grant Stevens has stated there is no evidence of racial motivation or of a knee being placed on Kundi’s neck.
