Emmy 2025 Nominations: The Triumphs, the Snubs, and the Shockers No One Saw Coming

Wow, where do I even begin with this year’s Emmy nominations? If you tuned in live—or even just caught the highlights later—you probably had the same reaction most of us did: “Wait, what just happened?” From stunning snubs to some deserving nods, the 2025 Emmys have officially set the internet ablaze. And no, you're not imagining things— Squid Game and Patrick Schwarzenegger were completely left out.

Let’s start with the elephant in the room: Thanos from Squid Game . Not the Marvel villain, but the purple-haired, emotionally unhinged rapper played by Korean artist T.O.P. People were sure he'd be nominated. I mean, his performance had depth, chaos, and charisma—everything Emmy voters typically love. And yet, not a single nod. Even more shocking, Squid Game was locked out across the board. That’s Netflix’s flagship title, and it couldn’t land a single nomination? That’s wild.

Same story for Patrick Schwarzenegger. This guy was hands down the emotional core of The White Lotus this season, and he delivered a nuanced performance that should have made him a frontrunner. But while almost every other major cast member landed a nom, Patrick was nowhere to be found. Definitely one of the biggest snubs of the season.

And it didn’t stop there. Renée Zellweger was passed over for her take on Bridget Jones (released as a TV movie in the U.S.), and Imogen Faith Reid’s absolutely layered performance in Good American Family was also ignored. She played a character who was, no joke, supposed to be seven and 21 years old. That's acting gymnastics, and she pulled it off. Still, no love from the Academy.

On the flip side, Severance dominated with 27 nominations, the most for any show this year, while The Studio snagged 23, leading in the comedy category. Those were expected to do well, but the sheer number of nods still had jaws dropping. And Adolescence , the one-shot Netflix limited series, showed up strong too, likely cementing young star Owen Cooper as a future Emmy winner.

There were also some eyebrow-raising anti -snubs—nominees that maybe didn’t quite earn their spots. Pedro Pascal, for instance, got a lead actor nomination for The Last of Us , despite his character dying early in the season. Great actor, sure. But in this category? It’s questionable.

And finally, let’s talk genre confusion. Poker Face didn’t score in major comedy categories even though it arguably should have. Maybe it’s because it blurs the line between comedy and murder mystery. Cynthia Erivo got a nod for her chameleon-like guest spot, but Natasha Lyonne, who carries the entire show, was completely overlooked. Again—what?

In the end, the 2025 Emmy nominations gave us everything: triumph, controversy, and enough drama to keep the discourse going right up until Emmy night. One thing’s for sure—these awards are anything but predictable.
