Emmy Nominations 2025: “Severance” Dominates as Streaming Giants Clash
Hey everyone, let’s talk about the just-revealed 2025 Emmy nominations — and wow, there’s a lot to unpack. The Television Academy has officially announced the nominees for the 77th Emmy Awards, and it’s clear we’re deep into the golden age of prestige TV.
Leading the charge this year is Severance from Apple TV+, which scored a massive 27 nominations , the highest of any show this season. That’s no surprise — it’s visually striking, emotionally layered, and has one of the most unique concepts on television. What’s even more exciting is how The Studio , also from Apple TV+, made history by landing 23 nominations , tying the record set by The Bear last year for the most comedy nominations in a single year.
HBO Max isn’t far behind. With 142 total nominations across its programming — including The Penguin , The White Lotus , The Last of Us , and Hacks — the network is once again asserting dominance in the streaming wars. The Penguin in particular is leading the limited/anthology series pack, while The White Lotus continues its Emmy-winning momentum.

Another standout moment? Kathy Bates becoming the oldest woman ever nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama for her role in Matlock at age 77. She’s an icon, and this nomination feels like a celebration of her legendary career.
On the comedy front, Hacks , The Bear , and Abbott Elementary are all back, along with newcomers like Shrinking and Nobody Wants This . Only Murders in the Building finally saw all three of its stars — Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez — nominated together. That’s long overdue, if you ask me.
