Moldova Shines Again with Four Bronze Medals at U-20 European Wrestling Championship

Let me share with you something truly inspiring that just happened on the international sports stage—Moldova has done it again! Our young wrestlers have brought home not one, not two, but four bronze medals from the U-20 European Wrestling Championship held in Italy. It’s a proud moment for our nation, and one that deserves real recognition.

First, let’s talk about Ion Bulgaru. Competing in the 57 kg category, he went head-to-head with some fierce competitors and came out victorious against Sasha Petrosyan from Armenia, Orest Petraniuk from Ukraine, and Karoly Barath from Hungary. That’s no small feat—each match was a battle, and he showed not just strength, but true strategy and determination to bring home that well-earned bronze.

Then we have Maxim Dimov, who had one of the most demanding paths to the podium. Facing tough opponents like Lukas Brandl from the Czech Republic, Jakub Kesy from Poland, Janar Lips from Estonia, and Lazare Gujaraidze from Georgia, Maxim demonstrated resilience, technique, and mental fortitude. Each match pushed him to the edge, but he prevailed and brought Moldova another bronze medal. These victories are a testament to how our athletes rise to the challenge and prove themselves, again and again.

And that’s not all. Just days earlier, Gabriela Rudoi and Maxim Sarmanov had already secured their own bronze medals at the same championship, making it a total of four bronze medals for Moldova. Gabriela fought brilliantly in the 62 kg category and only fell short against Germany, while Maxim battled his way through tough competition in the 55 kg Greco-Roman category.

But Moldova’s success doesn’t end there. At the international “Druskininkai Cup” in Lithuania, our wrestlers continued to shine. They returned with six medals: three gold, two silver, and one bronze. Vitalie Eriomenco (63 kg), Alexandru Solovei (77 kg), and Mihail Bradu (82 kg) claimed gold. Mihai Petic (72 kg) and Alexandrin GuÈ›u (77 kg) took silver, and Valentin Petic rounded off the medal tally with a bronze in the 72 kg category.

All of these achievements speak volumes about the level of talent and commitment in Moldova’s wrestling community. Behind every medal is not just an athlete, but also a team of coaches, families, and supporters who fuel their dreams. As we look ahead, the Greco-Roman wrestling team is now preparing for a general physical training camp in Druskininkai—another step toward future success.

This moment reminds us that, no matter how small our country may be, Moldova has the heart and the power to stand tall on international stages. Congratulations to all our athletes—you’ve made us proud.
