Patrick Dorgu Shines as Manchester United Thrash Bournemouth 4-1
Manchester United fans were treated to a truly exciting performance this week as the Red Devils swept aside Bournemouth with a convincing 4-1 victory in the Premier League Summer Series. But while the scoreline was impressive, what really caught the eye was the electric form of young Danish fullback Patrick Dorgu, who’s making quite the name for himself this pre-season.
Dorgu, just 20 years old, has been turning heads since joining United from Lecce back in January. His debut season wasn’t all smooth sailing—he showed flashes of brilliance in the Europa League, especially with his pace and energy down the left flank, but he also had a few shaky moments in the Premier League, as you'd expect from a young defender learning the ropes in such a high-pressure environment.

Fast forward to now, and it’s clear that something has clicked. In this latest match against Bournemouth, Dorgu was arguably the best player on the pitch. He caused constant problems for Bournemouth's defense, particularly in the first half, with his quick runs, sharp positioning, and much-improved decision-making in the final third.
What stood out most was his end product—an area he struggled with last season. This time, he delivered a perfect cross from the left, cutting in on his right foot to assist Rasmus Højlund with a pinpoint header to open the scoring. But he didn’t stop there. Just minutes later, after a clever quick free-kick from Mason Mount, Dorgu burst through the defense, shrugged off his marker, and calmly slotted in his first goal for Manchester United. That goal made it 2-0 before halftime and capped off a brilliant first-half display.
Manager Ruben Amorim was full of praise after the match. He noted that the team, despite largely featuring the same players from last season, now looks and plays like a completely different side. There’s a renewed energy and cohesion, and the tactical structure is finally starting to gel. He also highlighted how players like Højlund are not just scoring goals but contributing to the overall flow of play—linking up, pressing, and holding up the ball better.
It’s only pre-season, of course, and the real pressure is yet to come. But for now, there’s genuine optimism around the club. With performances like this, especially from emerging talents like Dorgu, United fans can feel encouraged. The young Dane will be hoping to keep up this level against Everton in their final game of the American tour—and if he does, he may just force his way into Amorim’s starting XI once the real season kicks off.
