PSG Target Lucas Chevalier as Donnarumma Future Hangs in the Balance

So here’s what’s been making waves in the football world lately—Paris Saint-Germain are seriously ramping up their interest in Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier. Now, the timing of this is no coincidence. It's all unfolding amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding Gianluigi Donnarumma’s future at the club.

Even though Donnarumma’s contract with PSG runs until June 2026, talks about extending his stay haven’t really gone anywhere. That has naturally raised some eyebrows at PSG, especially after the whole Kylian Mbappé situation last year where he ended up walking for free. The club is clearly eager to avoid a repeat of that, and this time, they’re taking a more proactive approach. That’s where Lucas Chevalier comes in.

Chevalier, still just 23, has been making a name for himself in Ligue 1. He was recently named Ligue 1’s Goalkeeper of the Year for the 2024–25 season—and rightly so. His numbers are solid: 2.8 saves per game at a 78% save rate and over eight expected goals prevented across the campaign. That's elite-level stuff. Naturally, clubs across Europe have taken notice, and PSG aren't the only ones sniffing around.

Aston Villa have reportedly contacted Lille about Chevalier as well. They see him as a potential replacement for Emiliano Martínez, who might be on the move this summer. But unfortunately for Villa, they may already be trailing in this race. PSG have moved fast. According to reports, a five-year deal has already been agreed in principle with the player. What remains is for PSG and Lille to settle on the transfer fee—which is expected to be around €40 million. Lille are standing firm, but PSG appear ready to meet that price.

Lille, meanwhile, are already preparing for life without their star keeper. They’ve started looking at replacements, signaling that internally, they may see this transfer as inevitable. Chevalier himself seems open to the move, although he’s under contract with Lille until 2027 and isn’t exactly pushing for an exit. Still, the chance to join the reigning European champions may be too good to pass up.

As for Donnarumma, the interest in him is heating up. Manchester United, Chelsea, and even Galatasaray have been linked. If he does leave, PSG look set to move quickly—and Chevalier could become their first signing of the summer.

So while nothing's official yet, the writing is on the wall. PSG are preparing for the next chapter between the sticks—and Lucas Chevalier might just be the man to turn that page.
