Scorching Heat Set to Sizzle Chicago on Monday
Hey everyone, just a heads-up about what’s coming our way in the weather department. If you’re in Chicago or the surrounding suburbs, get ready—because Monday is expected to be one of the hottest days we’ve had this summer. A Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service, and it’ll be in effect from noon to 8 p.m. for a large chunk of the region, including Boone, Cook, Kane, DuPage, Will, McHenry, Lake, and even parts of Northwest Indiana like Porter and Lake counties.
Now, let’s talk numbers. Temperatures on Monday afternoon are expected to climb into the low to mid 90s , but it won’t feel like that at all. Thanks to the humidity, it’s going to feel more like 105 to 109 degrees , possibly even hotter in some pockets. Some weather models are forecasting heat index values between 100 and 110 degrees , which can be extremely dangerous if precautions aren’t taken.

There might be a little relief in the early morning with some rain showers rolling through, especially in the northwest parts of the area. That could delay the heat a bit, but once the sun breaks through, temperatures are expected to soar quickly . So, even if the day starts a little cooler or cloudy, don’t be fooled—by the afternoon, that extreme heat will be fully in place.
With that in mind, it’s really important to stay safe. That means staying indoors during the hottest part of the day, especially from midday through early evening , keeping hydrated, and checking in on vulnerable neighbors—especially the elderly, kids, or anyone with health conditions. And if you’re planning to be outside, take frequent breaks in the shade and try to avoid strenuous activity.
This heat isn’t expected to stick around too long, though. By Tuesday , we’ll still be hot, but a bit more manageable in the low 90s. Then by Wednesday , we’ll cool down further into the 80s. In fact, by Thursday through the weekend , we’re looking at upper 70s and even a sunny, pleasant stretch of weather. A little reward for making it through the scorcher on Monday.
So, to sum it all up: extreme heat is on the way , the heat index will make it feel well above 100 degrees , and it’s critical to take it seriously. Let’s all be smart and stay safe out there!
