SmackDown Ignites the Fourth with Chaos, Comebacks, and Championship Shakeups
SmackDown on July 4, 2025, delivered pure fireworks from start to finish—both literal and metaphorical. If you missed this episode, buckle up, because it was one of those nights where everything seemed to happen at once, and everyone was out for blood, pride, and gold.
The night kicked off with Cody Rhodes trying to address the WWE Universe. But before he could say much, Randy Orton interrupted, stirring the pot between them ahead of Rhodes’ massive Undisputed WWE Title showdown with John Cena at SummerSlam. Orton told Rhodes to "kick Cena’s ass," which was enough to summon Drew McIntyre back into the mix. McIntyre didn’t mince words—he called them both “betas,” tried to sow division, and got an RKO for his trouble. It’s official now: McIntyre and Orton will clash next week at Saturday Night’s Main Event. But McIntyre’s path still feels cloudy. He wants Rhodes to win just so he can take the title from him? It’s chaotic, and that’s probably the point.

The women’s division saw some compelling momentum too. Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair, unlikely partners at best, teamed up and won a hard-hitting triple-threat tag match. Despite their clunky teamwork early on, they managed to land a moonsault/Twisted Bliss combo that put Piper Niven and Alba Fyre down for the count. Now, Bliss and Flair are headed to a Fatal 4-Way at WWE Evolution for the Women’s Tag Titles. Say what you will about WWE’s obsession with “can they coexist?” storylines—this one might actually work.
In the main event, the headline-grabbing moment came as Jacob Fatu and Jimmy Uso took down Solo Sikoa and JC Mateo. Fatu even pinned Sikoa clean—a huge moment in itself—but the post-match carnage stole the spotlight. Talla Tonga and Tonga Loa stormed the ring and obliterated Fatu with a brutal powerbomb through the announce table. Bloodline 3.0, or whatever Sikoa wants to call it, is here—and they made sure we knew it.
Elsewhere, Andrade and Rey Fenix continued to impress by handing Fraxiom their first SmackDown loss. Despite a wild Spanish Fly and Phoenix Splash combo from the losing side, Fenix broke the pin, hit a dive to the outside, and Andrade closed the match with The Message. This was arguably one of the best tag matches of the year—pure adrenaline.
Meanwhile, The Wyatt Sicks continue their dominance in chaotic fashion, winning another 8-man tag match. Johnny Gargano walked out mid-match, leaving his teammates stunned. Erick Rowan capitalized, securing the win for the eerie faction. It feels like WWE is building them up into unstoppable territory—and they’d better capitalize soon, or risk repeating history.
Finally, WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton made waves by choosing WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus as her opponent for Evolution. Some fans are calling it a cop-out, others see it as strategy. Either way, it’s a match with major legacy implications.
All in all, SmackDown on Independence Day delivered everything you'd want—explosive action, dramatic swerves, and storylines that promise even more insanity on the road to SummerSlam.
