Thousands Gather in Birmingham to Honor Ozzy Osbourne
It’s a surreal and emotional day in Birmingham, where thousands of fans have gathered to pay tribute to a true legend of music — the one and only Ozzy Osbourne. The streets near Broad Street are packed, not with traffic, but with love, admiration, and memories. People have come from all over to say goodbye to the man who helped create heavy metal, and who always carried a piece of Birmingham in his heart.
Earlier today, a public procession took place ahead of Ozzy’s private funeral. His hearse, escorted by family and accompanied by a brass band, made its way down Broad Street to the Black Sabbath Bridge — the very place where a bench was dedicated to the band that started it all. Fans lined the street, some holding candles, others clutching Black Sabbath albums or wearing tour shirts from years gone by. There were tears, laughter, and a whole lot of stories being shared about the man they knew as the Prince of Darkness.

Ozzy passed away on July 22 at the age of 76, just weeks after his final live performance. That show, held in Birmingham, was part of the “Back to the Beginning” charity event — a powerful, emotional farewell to the city where his music journey began. It was a full-circle moment, and now, just weeks later, fans have returned to that same city to say goodbye.
The tribute today was deeply moving. Floral arrangements were left at the Black Sabbath bench, and heartfelt notes were scattered across the ground. One read, “Thank you for the music, Ozzy. You changed my life.” Another simply said, “Forever our Prince.”
Zafar Iqbal, the lord mayor of Birmingham, said it best: “Ozzy was more than a music legend — he was a son of Birmingham.” That sentiment was clearly shared by everyone in attendance. For many, this wasn't just a farewell to a musician — it was a goodbye to a local hero who defined a genre and gave generations a voice.
Following the procession, a private funeral is being held for close family and friends. The city has closed Broad Street temporarily to allow for this moment of reflection, and even public transport routes have been adjusted out of respect.
Ozzy’s legacy will live on, not just in his music, but in the people he inspired. His influence, both musically and personally, shaped lives across the world. And today, as fans sang, cried, and embraced, one thing was made clear — Ozzy Osbourne will never be forgotten.
