Thunderstorm Watch Returns to Prince George as Weather Remains Unsettled
Hey everyone, just a quick update you’ll want to hear—especially if you're in or around Prince George right now. So here’s what’s happening: Environment Canada had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for our area earlier today, but the situation has since been downgraded to a severe thunderstorm watch . That might sound like good news, but it’s still something we all need to keep an eye on.

This all unfolded Friday afternoon. Around 4 p.m., the weather alert was upgraded to a warning due to increasingly unstable atmospheric conditions. That means we were seeing signs of potentially dangerous storm activity—strong winds, heavy downpours, even the possibility of hail or intense lightning. Thankfully, it calmed down enough by just after 5 p.m. that Environment Canada felt comfortable downgrading the alert. Still, the risk hasn’t passed completely.
The weather for the rest of the evening will stay unsettled. Showers will hang around, and there’s still a chance we’ll hear thunder rumbling overhead. If you're out and about, it’s smart to stay near shelter just in case conditions change quickly. Winds are expected to die down overnight, dropping to light breezes with temperatures dipping to around 13°C.
Now looking ahead to the weekend—it’s not quite smooth sailing yet. Saturday will bring more showers and yet another possibility of afternoon thunderstorms. Rainfall amounts could reach up to 10 millimetres in some areas, and winds will kick up again from the north, gusting as high as 40 km/h. The high will hover around 22°C, but it might feel more like 25°C due to humidity. UV index will be moderate, so if you do see some sunshine between clouds, don’t forget that sunscreen.
Saturday night should calm a bit, with just a 30% chance of more showers and temperatures dropping to about 9°C. The good news? Things begin to look brighter starting Sunday. We’re expecting a mix of sun and cloud, and only a slight chance of more rain, with temperatures climbing to 24°C.
By Monday and Tuesday, we’ll be on the upswing. Monday will be cloudy, but it clears up overnight, and then Tuesday should bring full sunshine and a warm high of 25°C. The rest of the week continues the trend—mixes of sun and clouds, highs in the mid to upper 20s.
So while we’re still under watch for now, it looks like better weather is on the horizon. Just make sure you stay alert this evening and tomorrow. Keep an umbrella handy, and don’t ignore any new weather alerts. Storms in our area can be unpredictable, and it’s always better to play it safe. Stay dry, stay safe, and let’s look forward to clearer skies soon.
