Let’s talk about what that means for you right now. If you’re in a house, get to the basement or an interior room on the lowest floor with no windows. If you're in a mobile home, a car, or outdoors, you are not safe—move to the closest sturdy building and take shelter. The biggest dangers here include flying debris, which can be deadly if you’re not protected. Roofs and windows could be damaged. Vehicles may be hit. And there's a high likelihood of trees coming down.

Flash flooding is also a concern because of torrential rain with this storm. So if you’re driving, do not try to cross any flooded roads. Turn around—don’t drown. Stay put if you can, and get to safety now.

This storm system is moving quickly, and conditions are changing by the minute. Keep your phone charged, stay tuned to local news stations or NOAA Weather Radio, and follow alerts as they come in. It’s a good idea to have a family emergency plan and a designated safe room. If you have pets, try to bring them with you to your shelter area—just don't delay getting to safety.

Lastly, if you're somewhere with other people—at work, at school, in a public place—remain calm and follow established tornado procedures. Avoid large open spaces like gyms or auditoriums, and again, stay away from windows .

Please don’t wait to see the tornado. If a warning has been issued for your area, act immediately. Every second counts. Stay alert, stay safe, and check in with friends and loved ones nearby. Let’s all look out for each other tonight.
