Ushuaia Airport Welcomes 44,000 Passengers in June Despite Passenger Drop
Hey, have you heard the latest numbers coming out of Ushuaia? The Malvinas Argentinas Airport had a significant movement of travelers last month. According to data released by the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC), a total of 44,000 passengers passed through Ushuaia’s airport during June 2025. This figure includes both domestic and international flights, putting Ushuaia once again among Argentina’s most active air terminals, landing it in the 11th spot nationwide.
But here’s the twist—it wasn’t all good news. Even though 44,000 is a solid number, it actually marks a 22% drop compared to the same month last year. And not just that, it also saw 3,000 fewer passengers than in May 2025. So while Ushuaia continues to be a strong performer in terms of travel, it's clear there’s been a dip in momentum.

Still, the Malvinas Argentinas Airport remains an essential hub, especially for tourism and regional connectivity. If you’ve ever flown there, you know just how unique it is—the gateway to Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica, and some of the most remote destinations in the world.
Interestingly, while Ushuaia saw a decline, the Trejo Noel Airport in RÃo Grande showed the opposite trend. It handled 10,000 passengers in June and ranked 26th out of 39 airports in the country. Even more impressive, RÃo Grande's numbers rose by 17% compared to June last year. That’s a clear sign of growing travel interest or perhaps better infrastructure and flight availability.
So what does this tell us? Travel trends in the south are shifting. Ushuaia, despite a slight setback, is still performing strongly. Meanwhile, RÃo Grande is quietly gaining traction. It’s fascinating to see how regional air traffic evolves, especially in areas as geographically unique as Tierra del Fuego.
All in all, Ushuaia's airport continues to be a major player, and although the numbers took a bit of a hit this month, the city remains a key destination. We’ll have to keep an eye on how the season progresses, especially with winter tourism in full swing.
