Vex the Siren Just Stole Borderlands 4—And I’m All In Again
Let me tell you, I was not expecting this. Gearbox has officially kicked off the Borderlands 4 hype train by dropping a brutal and blood-soaked character trailer—and naturally, it's the Siren leading the charge again. Yes, Vex is here, and if you thought the Sirens were wild in previous games, buckle up. Vex isn’t just another mystical warrior in the lineage of Lilith, Maya, or Amara. She’s a walking, talking, purple-powered storm of retail-fueled rage—and I’m absolutely here for it.
Her animated short, titled “Purple Friday,” doesn’t pull any punches. Imagine the chaos of a Black Friday gone wrong, then multiply it by ten, add gallons of blood, a reanimated feline sidekick named Trouble, and you’ve got Vex’s origin story. It’s gory, unapologetically violent, and perfectly in line with the absurd tone we’ve come to love from Borderlands. Honestly, it plays out like every disgruntled employee’s fantasy—except this time, she's got Phase energy powers and isn't afraid to use them.

What really sold me, though, was her gameplay. Vex is all about devastating elemental orbs, summoning aggressive clones of herself, and unleashing a godlike action skill where she morphs into a winged reaper and blasts enemies with an Eldritch-style attack. It’s dramatic, flashy, and exactly the kind of high-impact combat that makes Borderlands feel so addictively chaotic. And her purple cat Trouble? It’s both adorable and horrifying—just the way we like our Borderlands companions.
With every new installment, I always tell myself I’ll try someone new. Maybe I’ll go with the tanky bruiser or the stealthy sniper. But as soon as I saw Vex in action, I knew I was lying to myself again. Sirens just hit different . There’s a rhythm to their chaos, a flash of color and fury that you don’t get with anyone else. And Vex? She might be the most compelling Siren yet.
Gearbox also seems to be putting more thought into the story this time. They’re dialing back the over-the-top humor just a bit to actually tell something deeper—and weirdly, I find myself intrigued. The world of Kairos, ruled by a tyrannical Timekeeper, promises a mix of revolution, cybernetics, and all-out war. And with Vex leading the way, I’m more than ready to dive in.
So yeah, call it predictable, but I’m playing the Siren for the fourth time—and I’ve never been more hyped about it. September can’t come soon enough.
