Walmart Recalls 850,000 Water Bottles After Eye Injuries from Exploding Caps
Hey everyone, there’s a really serious update coming out of Walmart right now that I think everyone needs to hear — especially if you’ve got one of those big stainless steel water bottles at home. So here’s the deal: Walmart has just announced a recall of 850,000 of their Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles . This isn't just your everyday product recall either — it’s happening because of a major safety concern that’s already caused permanent injuries.

Here’s what’s going on. Apparently, the lids on these bottles can eject forcefully when opened, especially if the bottle has been used to store food, juice, milk, or even carbonated drinks for some time. Sounds harmless, right? But it’s not. These caps have literally flown off with enough force to cause injury , and unfortunately, two people have suffered permanent vision loss after being hit in the eye. That’s not just painful — it’s life-changing.
Walmart has gotten three reports so far of people getting struck in the face by these flying caps. And out of those, two resulted in serious, irreversible eye damage . So if you have one of these bottles sitting at home or in your car — stop using it right now .
The bottles in question have a silver stainless-steel body with a black, screw-on lid and the Ozark Trail logo on the side. While the model number (83-662) isn’t printed on the bottle itself, it would’ve been on the original packaging. These have been sold nationwide since 2017, so they’ve been out there for quite a while, and it’s very possible that you or someone you know owns one.
Walmart is urging customers to bring the bottles back to any of their stores for a full refund. You can also contact them directly if you prefer to handle it online. They’ve said that the safety of their customers is a top priority , and that they’ve fully cooperated with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the bottle manufacturer to get these dangerous items off shelves and out of homes.
So again — if you’ve got one of those large Ozark Trail bottles, don’t wait. This isn’t about preference or convenience — it’s a matter of protecting yourself and your loved ones. Let’s spread the word and keep people safe.
