One of the biggest stories came out of Class 5A, where Benjamin Russell absolutely shocked Central-Clay County, ranked No. 3, with a blowout victory. A score of 40-7 left no doubt that Benjamin Russell came to play and were clearly in control from start to finish. Over in Class 7A, No. 7 Vestavia Hills also made headlines by rolling past Auburn High, which was ranked No. 3, showing just how unpredictable the early season can be.

Other Thursday matchups had Hokes Bluff taking down Southside 28-7, while Talladega handled Childersburg 29-12. Handley came out strong with a 49-20 win over Dadeville. These games really highlighted the depth of talent across Alabama’s high school football programs, and it’s clear that several teams are hitting their stride early.
Friday continued the action with Alexandria dominating Jacksonville 34-7. The game had some tense moments, including a serious injury to Marquel Wood, which paused play as teammates and staff surrounded him, offering support. Despite that, Alexandria maintained control, with standout performances like M.J. Morris scoring multiple touchdowns and even returning an interception for a score. Meanwhile, Anniston defeated Beauregard 28-15, and Cherokee County shut out Arab 25-0. Some other notable blowouts included Wadley taking down Horseshoe Bend 58-10 and Westbrook Christian overwhelming Glencoe 38-7.
Fans across the state were also keeping an eye on ranked matchups, such as Oxford visiting Moody and Thompson taking on Grayson, which are set to be big games to watch as the season progresses. In total, over 80 games were scheduled across the Birmingham metro area alone, with seven of them featuring top-ranked teams.
