Australia U-23 Set to Kick Off Against Myanmar in ASEAN Women's Championship
So, here’s what’s happening in the world of women’s football — and it’s an exciting one if you're following the next generation of Aussie stars. Tonight, the Australia Under-23 women’s team is making their return to the international scene as they face off against Myanmar in their opening match of the ASEAN Women’s Championship, now officially called the MSIG Serenity Cup 2025 .
This tournament, which was previously known as the AFF Women’s Championship, is being hosted across two stadiums in Vietnam — Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho and Lach Tray Stadium in Haiphong. It’s a regional event, but one that packs a lot of energy and competition, featuring eight nations from across Southeast Asia.
Australia has been placed in Group B, alongside Myanmar, the Philippines, and Timor-Leste. Tonight’s match against Myanmar kicks off at 7:30 PM AEST, or 4:30 PM local Vietnam time, at Viet Tri Stadium. From there, the Aussies will take on the Philippines on August 10 and then Timor-Leste on August 13 — all at the same venue.

The format is straightforward: the top two teams from each group will move into the semi-finals, and the grand final is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19. So it’s a pretty packed couple of weeks.
All matches are being streamed live — fans in Australia can tune in through FPT Play , and for international viewers, the ASEAN United FC YouTube Channel is where you’ll find the live broadcasts.
What’s even more exciting is the talent within this Aussie squad. It includes stars like Sasha Grove and Alana Cerne from Western United. Both players have had a strong journey leading up to this point. Grove had a breakout season, playing every minute and even grabbing the Club’s Young Player of the Season award. Cerne, despite a late-season injury, has bounced back and returned to full fitness, playing with NPLW Victoria side Essendon Royals.
The team is coached by Joe Palatsides, who brings a wealth of experience as an assistant with the Matildas. It’s a solid unit, and expectations are high. The team’s goal isn’t just to perform well in this tournament — it’s about building up toward future international competitions and continuing Australia’s growth in women’s football.
So whether you're a long-time fan or just starting to follow the journey of the Matildas’ next generation, this is the perfect time to jump in. Tonight’s game could set the tone for a strong campaign — and hopefully, a place in the final on August 19.
