Canada Holds Second Largest Healthcare Express Entry Draw of 2025
Canada has once again made headlines in the immigration world. The country has carried out one of its largest Express Entry draws of the year, specifically targeting candidates in healthcare and social services occupations. This latest round, held on August 19, 2025, saw Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issue 2,500 invitations to apply for permanent residence. What makes this draw significant is that it stands as the second largest healthcare-focused draw of the year, showing a clear emphasis on bringing in professionals who can strengthen Canada’s healthcare and social support systems.
To be considered, candidates were required to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 470 and to have submitted their Express Entry profile before April 23, 2025, at 8:08 p.m. UTC. This threshold reflects the competitive nature of the pool, as only those with strong profiles and relevant occupational backgrounds were invited.
This healthcare draw was not an isolated event. In fact, it followed closely after a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw on August 18, a French language proficiency draw on August 8, and a Canadian Experience Class draw on August 7. This means the August 19 round marked the fifth Express Entry draw of the month and the second one within a single week.

What’s particularly noteworthy is how the trend has shifted in recent months. Since May 2025, healthcare and social services draws have been held consistently once a month. Before that, no such category-based draws had taken place earlier in the year. This signals a stronger prioritization by the Canadian government for candidates in these fields. With healthcare systems under constant demand, Canada appears to be making a deliberate push to welcome more skilled workers in these areas.
Looking at the broader picture, IRCC has already issued 55,820 invitations through the Express Entry system in 2025. While a large portion of these invitations have gone to Provincial Nominee Program candidates, significant attention has also been given to Canadian Experience Class applicants, French-speaking candidates, and those in priority occupations like healthcare, social services, and even education.
The numbers also speak to the scale of these efforts. Earlier, on July 22, an even larger healthcare draw was conducted, with 4,000 invitations issued. This makes the August 19 draw the second largest for healthcare this year, further confirming the strong focus on these professions.
For those following Canadian immigration closely, this is a clear sign of how policy is adapting to the country’s labor needs. By creating more space for healthcare workers, social service professionals, and other priority groups, Canada is shaping its future workforce and addressing urgent demands across the country.
In short, this draw is more than just numbers—it reflects a continuing strategy to balance immigration with national priorities, offering thousands of skilled individuals a pathway to permanent residence while strengthening vital sectors in Canadian society.
