Cowboys Gear Up for Preseason Clash with Rams
The Dallas Cowboys are finally stepping onto the field for their first preseason game of 2025, and fans have plenty to keep an eye on as they take on the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium. After three weeks of training camp in Oxnard, California, the speculation and drills are giving way to live action, where rookies, backups, and roster hopefuls will try to make their case.
One of the biggest storylines is at quarterback. Dak Prescott hasn’t played in a preseason game since 2019, and while the team has kept quiet about whether that streak will end, all eyes may instead be on Joe Milton. After missing part of the Cowboys’ joint practice earlier this week due to a hand injury, Milton is expected to get valuable snaps. He showed flashes in camp, including a deep touchdown to Jalen Brooks that wasn’t even supposed to be shown in practice. The Cowboys’ wide receiver group is crowded, which means competition is fierce. Undrafted rookie Traeshon Holden has been turning heads with big plays in camp. Tonight is a prime opportunity for him to show he’s not just a practice standout. Jonathan Mingo, entering his second year, is also looking to solidify a bigger role after a modest rookie season.
On the ground, the Cowboys are dealing with a shortage of healthy running backs. Phil Mafah is set to take advantage of the extra workload, and some believe he could even lead the NFL in preseason rushing yards. His power running style could be a highlight against the Rams’ defense.
