Carano, a former MMA fighter turned actress, didn’t just walk away quietly. In 2024, she sued Disney for wrongful termination and discrimination, claiming she was targeted for her political views while male co-stars who made controversial posts faced no punishment. She sought damages and even wanted to be reinstated in The Mandalorian .
That lawsuit got a surprising boost — from Elon Musk. As part of his promise to fund legal battles for people who believed they were discriminated against over posts made on his platform, X, Musk backed Carano’s case. She later said she had never met him but called his support a Good Samaritan act.
Disney initially tried to have the lawsuit dismissed, arguing they had the right to distance their brand from her comments. But in a twist, the settlement statement from Lucasfilm painted a very different picture. They described Carano as well respected by her colleagues, hardworking, and kind on set — and even hinted at wanting to work with her again in the future.
Carano, for her part, called the settlement “the best outcome for all parties” and added, “I hope this brings some healing to the force.” She also said she’s ready to move on to the next chapter in her career.
