Disney Greenlights “Coven Academy” With Malachi Barton in Key Role
Disney has officially given the green light to Coven Academy , a brand-new supernatural dramedy that’s already generating buzz. Created by Tim Federle—the same creative force behind High School Musical: The Musical: The Series —the show promises a mix of magic, mystery, and teen drama, all set against the moody backdrop of New Orleans. What makes this announcement exciting is that the cast includes familiar names, including Malachi Barton, who fans will recognize from Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires .
So here’s the setup: Coven Academy follows three teenage witches-in-training who are bound by destiny to protect their city from dangerous, ancient forces. Malachi Barton steps into the role of Jake, alongside Louis Thresher as Ollie, Jordan Leftwich as Sasha, and Ora Duplass as Tegan. As for Tim Federle, he explained that Coven Academy is meant as a love letter to the YA shows he grew up on. He not only wrote and directed the pilot but is also serving as executive producer, continuing his long-running partnership with Disney. Federle’s schedule is already packed—he’s producing Vampirina: Teenage Vampire , set to premiere in September, and is also working on the sequel to Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion for Disney’s 20th Century Studios.
For Malachi Barton, this role represents another major step in his rising career. After showcasing his talent in Disney’s Zombies franchise, he’s now stepping into a world filled with witches, ancient secrets, and magical showdowns.
