Early Morning Fire Shakes Droitwich Industrial Estate
It was quite a dramatic scene early Wednesday morning at the Berry Hill Industrial Estate in Droitwich, as thick black smoke was seen pouring out of a commercial building, prompting an emergency response from local fire crews. The incident unfolded just after 6:15 AM when passers-by noticed the smoke and raised the alarm. Within minutes, sirens were echoing through the area, and fire crews began arriving on the scene.
The fire had broken out at Reddiplex, a company specialising in rubber and plastic extrusions. Firefighters discovered that the blaze was located within the building’s ventilation ducting, involving rubber materials that created significant amounts of smoke. According to the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, four crews were dispatched—coming from Droitwich, Worcester, Bromsgrove, and Wyre Forest fire stations. Alongside them, the incident command vehicle from Wyre Forest was also sent in.

Ten firefighters wearing full breathing apparatus tackled the flames using multiple hosereel jets, one main jet, and even deployed a nine-metre ladder to reach the affected areas. The Berry Hill link road had to be blocked to give the crews access to a nearby fire hydrant, and police were also present to assist with traffic control—though they weren’t involved in the firefighting itself.
People living and working nearby were understandably concerned. One local resident, Simon Carter, said he was walking to work when he heard the sirens. Although he wasn’t sure what was happening at the time, he described it as an unusual and unsettling sight for that time of day. Another passer-by, who didn’t want to be named, said they had trouble getting to work because the road closure meant parking further away—and traffic into the estate was significantly delayed.
By around 8 AM, there was still a strong smell of burning in the air and smoke could be seen lingering around the first-floor windows. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and the swift action by the fire service meant that the situation was brought under control within a couple of hours.
As of now, Reddiplex has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. Authorities are continuing their investigations into the exact cause of the fire, but for the residents and workers of Droitwich, it was certainly a morning to remember.
