Elaine Hendrix’s ‘Freakier Friday’ Cameo Brings Back Meredith Blake Vibes

If you grew up watching the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap , there’s a good chance you’ll get a little nostalgic watching Freakier Friday . The brand-new sequel to the 2003 body-swap comedy Freaky Friday hit theaters on August 8, and while most of the buzz is around Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reuniting as mother-daughter duo Tess and Anna Coleman, there’s a surprise guest who steals a small but memorable moment—Elaine Hendrix.

Hendrix is remembered by a generation as Meredith Blake, the glamorous (and, let’s be honest, scheming) fiancée trying to marry Nick Parker—Lohan’s on-screen dad—in The Parent Trap . This time, she pops up as Blake Kale, a magazine executive working with Anna’s client, a pop star played by Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. It’s a completely different setting, but there’s a cheeky nod to her old role: in one scene, she addresses Anna with the nickname “puss,” the same one Meredith used for Hallie and Annie all those years ago. It’s a quick wink to the audience, and it works.

When The Parent Trap first came out, Meredith was largely painted as the villain—someone the Parker twins had to outsmart to reunite their parents. Over the years, though, social media has given the character a surprising redemption arc. Millennials in particular have revisited the film and found themselves defending Meredith, pointing out that she was ambitious, stylish, and unapologetically herself. Hendrix herself has joked that she’s been defending Meredith “tooth and nail” her entire career, always believing her to be the “good guy” of her own story.

Being asked to join Freakier Friday was, in Hendrix’s words, “a dream come true.” She credits director Nisha Ganatra for inviting her in, saying she would have shown up for anything the filmmaker asked. This wasn’t her first reunion with Lohan—they had a virtual Parent Trap cast get-together during the pandemic—but this time, they were able to spend real time together on set. Hendrix says they reminisced, caught up on life, and even got better at staying in touch afterward, despite Lohan living on the other side of the world.

The two actresses’ lives have taken different paths, but Hendrix is genuinely happy for where Lohan is now—settled, thriving, and, as she puts it, “in a really great place.” After everything Lohan has experienced in the public eye, Hendrix says it’s “lovely” to see her happy and healthy.

So, while Freakier Friday is packed with body-swap comedy and a few Easter eggs from the original, this particular cameo adds a different layer. It’s a subtle bridge between two beloved films and a reminder that some characters—and the actors who play them—have a way of sticking with us long after the credits roll.
