Instagram Now Lets You Repost, Share Locations, and See Friends’ Reels

Instagram just dropped a bunch of new features, and honestly, they’re designed to make the app feel a lot more connected and interactive between you and your friends. If you've ever found a reel or post that you loved and wished you could just share it easily like you do on X (formerly Twitter), you’re in luck—Instagram is finally rolling out reposts .

This new repost feature lets you share public feed posts or reels right to your own profile. These reposts don’t just vanish into the void—they’ll actually show up in your followers’ feeds and also get saved to a dedicated repost tab on your profile. So it’s super easy to go back and find something you’ve reshared. And if you’re a creator, this is actually a big deal—your content might get seen by totally new audiences when others repost it. Instagram will credit you as the original source, but your content could start popping up on feeds of people who don't even follow you. So yeah, more reach, more views—potentially a big win for visibility.

Another big update is the Instagram Map . It’s kind of like combining Instagram with location tagging in real-time. You can now choose to share your last active location with select friends. It’s opt-in only, so nothing is automatically turned on, and there are plenty of controls. You can decide exactly who sees your location—or even block it in specific places. The map is also great for discovery. You’ll be able to explore what your friends or favorite creators are posting from different places, whether it’s a concert, a new café, or just a cool spot in town.

And for parents who have supervision features turned on for their teens—there’s some peace of mind built in. If a teen decides to start sharing their location, parents get notified, and they can manage who the teen is sharing with or disable it altogether.

Lastly, Instagram has added a “Friends” tab inside Reels. This new section shows you the public content your friends have liked, commented on, or reposted. It’s a fun way to keep up with what your circle is into, and you can instantly start convos around it. If you’d rather stay lowkey, though, there are new privacy settings that let you hide your own likes and mute activity from certain people.

All of this is rolling out now in the U.S., with more countries getting access soon. So if Instagram feels a little different next time you open it—it’s not just you. These updates are all about making the app feel more social, a little smarter, and definitely more personal.
