Jason Byrne Brings His Chaotic Genius Back On Tour with "Head in the Clouds"

So, here’s something exciting for comedy fans – Irish comedian Jason Byrne is officially back on tour with his latest show Head in the Clouds , and he’s kicking it all off this September at the Gaiety Theatre before heading across the UK and Ireland. Now, if you’ve ever seen Jason Byrne live – or even just caught clips of him – you’ll know this isn’t your typical stand-up set. It’s more like being dragged into the wonderfully chaotic world of his imagination, and frankly, that’s what makes it so brilliant.

The title Head in the Clouds is actually a cheeky nod to Byrne’s own childhood. Apparently, he was one of those kids constantly being told off for daydreaming in class – and now, that same wandering imagination has become the foundation of his comedy career. This new show promises all-new material, packed with what he calls "madness and magic," and if his past performances are anything to go by, it’ll be a riot.

Byrne is known for his high-energy delivery and totally off-the-cuff audience interactions. He’s famous for pulling people – usually unsuspecting men – on stage just to see what hilarious chaos might unfold. His reasoning? Women follow instructions too well, and men usually get it hilariously wrong. It’s all part of the fun.

One bit in the show will even involve audience members trying to identify old, obsolete objects from the ‘80s and ‘90s, while total nonsense plays out on stage to throw them off. It’s a mix of stand-up, improv, physical gags, and pure absurdity – kind of like if Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer designed a game show inside a dream.

The show first runs at the Edinburgh Fringe this month before launching on tour September 25 at the Gaiety Theatre, and it’ll wrap up at the end of November. One of the stops includes Wrexham’s William Aston Hall on November 29, where Byrne promises "a storm of nonsense" – his words, not mine.

Beyond the stage, Jason’s career spans radio, TV, and even books. He won a Sony Radio Gold Award for his BBC Radio 2 show, has popped up on Live at the Apollo , The Graham Norton Show , and The Royal Variety Performance , and he’s a regular in Australia and New Zealand too. Oh, and he’s written two hilarious memoirs about his life growing up in Ireland, both focused on his childhood and his relationship with his dad.

Right now, he’s also developing an animated sitcom based on his late father, working with some of the minds behind Rick and Morty , which could be another wild ride to look forward to.

If you’re looking for a comedy night that feels spontaneous, a bit nostalgic, and totally unpredictable, Jason Byrne’s Head in the Clouds might just be the perfect ticket.
