Jim Carrey Parts With His LA Mansion After 30 Years
After more than two years of waiting — and some serious price cutting — Jim Carrey’s long search for a buyer has finally ended. The comedy legend’s sprawling Brentwood estate has been sold for $17 million, marking the end of an era for a home he’s owned since the mid-90s.

Carrey first purchased the property back in 1994 for $3.8 million, a year when his career skyrocketed thanks to hits like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective , The Mask , and Dumb and Dumber . For over three decades, the mansion served as his private retreat, tucked away on more than two acres in one of Los Angeles’ most desirable neighborhoods.
The home itself is massive — nearly 11,000 square feet — with five bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and six fireplaces. Its design blends classic mid-century architecture with luxury touches. Brick hallways, wood floors, and high ceilings give it an old-school warmth, while a custom Art Deco movie theater (complete with a popcorn concession room) adds Hollywood flair. The primary suite includes a private balcony overlooking the estate, and there’s also a wine cellar and an art gallery for displaying treasures.
Outside, the property feels like a private resort. There’s a lighted tennis court, a sparkling waterfall pool and spa, a pool house with a wet bar, steam room, and infrared sauna, plus a treetop yoga and meditation platform. A gazebo offers shaded relaxation, and the lush landscaping provides both beauty and privacy.
The sale didn’t come easily. First listed in February 2023 for $28.9 million, the estate went through multiple price drops after more than 30 months on the market. At one point, it was even under contract for $19.8 million, but the deal fell through — possibly due to California’s wildfire threats at the time. Eventually, the right buyer came along, and the deal was closed with Graham J. Larson of Sotheby’s International Realty representing Carrey.
While the final price is about 41% lower than his initial asking price, it’s still a huge profit compared to what he originally paid. Even with Los Angeles’ hefty “mansion tax,” the sale represents a significant return on his investment.
This move might signal a new chapter for Carrey. In recent years, he’s hinted at stepping back from Hollywood, following roles like Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 . Letting go of a home that’s been part of his life for 30 years could be part of that shift — a quiet exit from a piece of his past, just as his career continues evolving in new directions.
And while the estate’s new owners will enjoy all those resort-style perks, one thing’s for sure — the deal probably didn’t come with free cable.
