Joe Westley Makes Bold Move to Dundee from Burnley
So here’s something exciting from the world of football—Joe Westley, the promising young striker from Burnley, has just signed a three-year deal with Dundee FC. This move has caught the attention of many fans and clubs, especially since there was strong interest from multiple English teams, including his former loan club, Swindon Town. But instead of staying in England, Westley decided to head north of the border and join the Scottish Premiership.
At just 20 years old, Joe Westley has already been on quite the journey. He came up through Burnley’s youth academy and signed his first pro contract in January 2023. Since then, he's had loan spells with AFC Fylde, Rochdale, and most recently Swindon Town in League Two. During his time at Swindon, he made 17 appearances and netted 3 goals—mostly coming off the bench but making a solid impact when called upon.

Despite the interest from English League Two sides like Walsall, Accrington Stanley, Fleetwood Town, and even a potential return to Swindon, Westley chose Dundee. According to the player himself, it wasn’t just about the football—it was about the vision. Dundee’s academy director David Longwell reached out to Joe’s agent and really sold him on the club’s future plans. That pitch clearly worked, and Westley said it felt like an opportunity he just couldn’t turn down.
What also helped sway his decision was a chat with Michael Mellon—his close friend and former Burnley teammate—who had great things to say about Dundee. Mellon described it as a club with passionate fans and a strong culture, which made the idea of joining even more appealing.
Westley has already had a standout pre-season, scoring against Huddersfield and bagging a brace against Warrington Hylands. He also made a late appearance for Burnley in their friendly against Stoke City. But with Burnley now promoted to the Premier League, Westley was unlikely to get regular first-team action. Moving to Dundee gives him that shot at more consistent playtime in a competitive league.
Now wearing the number 19 shirt, Westley is officially a Dee. While Swindon Town and others might be disappointed to miss out, this move could be a real turning point in Westley’s career. And for Dundee fans, it’s a signing to be genuinely excited about. Let’s see what the young striker can do in Scotland!
