Remembering Kelley Mack: A Bright Star Gone Too Soon

Hey everyone, I wanted to take a moment to talk about some really heartbreaking news that’s been circulating — the passing of actress Kelley Mack. You might recognize her from her roles in The Walking Dead or Chicago Med . She sadly passed away on August 2nd at just 33 years old, after a battle with glioma — a rare and aggressive type of cancer that affects the central nervous system.

Kelley was born Kelley Lynne Klebenow and was originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a Chapman University graduate who pursued a career in both acting and film production. While she had done commercials and short films, her more prominent roles were as Addy in Season 9 of The Walking Dead , and more recently, as Penelope Jacobs in Season 8 of Chicago Med .

Her family confirmed the news through a touching post on Instagram and also on her CaringBridge page. Her sister, Kathryn, wrote that Kelley passed peacefully, surrounded by their mother Kristen and their aunt Karen. It was a deeply emotional message where she spoke about Kelley's bravery and strength — especially in those final days — and how proud she was of her sister for facing everything with courage.

What’s even more moving is that Kelley had opened up publicly earlier this year about her diagnosis. She had been battling a diffuse midline glioma, which is not only rare but also extremely aggressive. It had affected her mobility, and she was using a walker and wheelchair after surgery. Yet, despite all of this, she remained determined and optimistic, describing it as just a "short chapter" in her long book. That says a lot about who she was — resilient, hopeful, and incredibly strong.

Her agent, Julie Smith, confirmed the news to the media, and since then, tributes have been pouring in. Her family plans to hold a remembrance ceremony in Glendale, Ohio on August 16, and a celebration of life will take place in Los Angeles later on.

Kelley’s legacy lives on not only through the characters she brought to life on screen but through the impact she had on the people around her. Whether it was through her performances, her courage, or her kindness, she made a lasting impression. Her spirit was bright, and although she left this world far too soon, her memory will continue to shine.
