Season 27 of South Park is moving full steam ahead, and the third episode has become one of the most talked-about moments of the season so far. After a short break to celebrate the show’s 28th anniversary with a marathon of classic episodes, the series is back with a storyline that dives straight into politics and chaos in Washington, D.C. Fans had been kept waiting since August 6, when the second episode aired, but anticipation has only grown, especially after the network teased what was coming next.
The episode, titled “Sickofancy,” follows Towelie as he heads into the nation’s capital—only to find the streets filled with tanks, soldiers, and a heavy military presence. In the promo clip, Towelie reacts with his usual clueless charm, exclaiming, “Wow, Washington, D.C.! This seems like a perfect place for a towel.” Of course, in true South Park fashion, that absurd setup leads straight into biting satire. The storyline is clearly referencing President Trump’s controversial crackdown in D.C., where federal officers and immigration agents were deployed under the justification of fighting crime and homelessness. While the White House insisted the operation was effective, critics have widely condemned it as an unnecessary display of authoritarian control.

What’s remarkable this season is how directly the show is skewering real-world politics. From the premiere on July 23 onward, South Park has aimed its sharpest jokes at President Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Episode 2 caused a stir when Noem was portrayed in an outrageous way, sparking backlash and even a response from the secretary herself. This kind of exchange isn’t unusual for South Park, but it’s happening at a moment when the show is drawing record ratings. In fact, the premiere pulled in over 6 million viewers across platforms, marking the series’ strongest numbers in 25 years. Episode 2 went even further, delivering the biggest share in the show’s history.
Episode 3 premiered on Wednesday, August 20, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central , with streaming available the following morning on Paramount+. For fans subscribed to the platform, both the Essential and Premium plans offer access, with the latter adding Showtime content and fewer ads.
There is, however, a twist in the release schedule. Comedy Central has confirmed that after this week’s episode, new installments won’t appear weekly. Instead, the show will skip a week before returning on September 3, then skip again until September 17. While no official reason has been given, many assume that creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are taking advantage of the break to move away from their famously frantic six-day production cycle and give themselves more breathing room.
Even with these pauses, excitement around South Park has never been higher. The mix of outrageous comedy, fearless political satire, and record-breaking ratings proves the series is still a cultural lightning rod nearly three decades after its debut.
