Stetson Bennett Shines as Rams Beat Cowboys 31-21 in Preseason Opener
Hey, have you heard about the Rams’ preseason game against the Cowboys? It was quite the show, especially with Stetson Bennett stepping up big time. So, here’s the scoop. Bennett was absolutely “awesome” in leading the Rams to a 31-21 victory over Dallas. Right from the start, Bennett showed confidence and poise. He connected on a huge 39-yard pass to Xavier Smith early on, setting the Rams up nicely for a touchdown run by running back Blake Corum. Speaking of Corum, this was his first live game action since last December, and boy, did he impress. He found the end zone twice in the first half, with touchdown runs of 2 and 4 yards. It was a strong statement after he came back from a fractured forearm that ended his rookie season early. After that, Corum handed the ball over to rookie Jarquez Hunter in the second half, giving the young guy some solid reps.

Bennett finished the game with stats that show his growth: 16 completions out of 24 attempts, 188 yards, and two touchdowns. Sure, he threw an interception on a deep pass to rookie Konata Mumpfield, but it was a 50/50 ball, and Bennett quickly bounced back to lead another scoring drive capped off by a field goal.
On defense, the Rams were just as impressive. Cornerback Cam Lampkin made a big play, intercepting a deep pass right in the end zone and getting celebrated by his teammates. Inside linebacker Pooh Paul Jr., a rookie, took on a major role, wearing the green dot that signifies the defensive play-caller on the field. His performance, alongside undrafted free agent Shaun Dolac, helped hold the Cowboys to just 97 yards in the first half.
There were a couple of injury concerns though. Running back Ronnie Rivers had to leave early with a rib injury after just two carries, and Konata Mumpfield also had an ankle injury that kept him off the field for the rest of the game.
