Stormy Mornings and Steamy Days Ahead for Omaha
So here’s what’s happening with the weather in Omaha right now — it’s shaping up to be a pretty active week, especially if you're not a fan of surprise showers during your morning commute. Wednesday has officially been labeled an “Impact Weather Day,” and for good reason. A couple of rounds of storms are expected to roll through, with the first round already making its way across parts of eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa this morning.
Now, if you were out and about early — say between 6 and 10 a.m. — you probably caught some of the action. Storms were expected to move into the metro area right around drive time, bringing heavy rainfall, some rumbles of thunder, and possibly gusty winds around 40 to 50 miles per hour. While the risk of severe weather has been rated as marginal by the Storm Prediction Center, isolated stronger storms haven’t been ruled out. A few of those could bring along some small hail, but the main concern is really the wind and heavy rain.

This line of storms originally started up in the Dakotas and has been pushing south-southeast. The more intense activity has been noticed particularly on the Iowa side of the river, with places like Denison and Carroll seeing some stronger gusts. The Omaha metro area was right in the path of this morning’s wave, especially areas just north of I-80.
Once the initial morning storms clear out, we’ll see things drying up through the afternoon. Expect more sunshine and a bit of a breeze from the southeast — winds could hit up to 25 mph. Temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 80s, and it’ll feel pretty muggy out there.
As for tonight, there’s still a slight chance of some isolated storms, especially to the east of Omaha. Nothing widespread, but it’s something to be aware of if you’re planning to be out late.
Looking ahead, the heat is going to crank up even more. Thursday's high is expected to hit around 90 degrees, and by Friday we’re talking mid-90s with a heat index possibly between 100 and 105. And just when you thought it couldn’t get more summerlike, more storm chances are on tap for the weekend as another front moves in. So Saturday and Sunday are also being watched as potential impact days.
In short, keep your umbrella close for the next couple of days, and be ready to sweat it out later in the week. Storms in the morning, sunshine in the afternoon, and heat building into the weekend — Omaha weather is definitely keeping us on our toes this week.
