Tennis Star Rights a Wrong After US Open Hat Snatching
At the US Open this week, a touching story unfolded that quickly spread across social media. It all began when Polish tennis player Kamil Majchrzak, fresh off his victory over Russia’s Karen Khachanov, was courtside signing autographs and handing out keepsakes to fans. Among the items was his own cap, which he clearly intended for a young boy in the crowd. But in a split second, that cap was snatched away by an adult man standing next to the child.
The moment, caught on camera, went viral almost immediately. Viewers were stunned to see the boy’s excitement turn to disappointment as the prized souvenir was pulled from his hands. Majchrzak later admitted he hadn’t realized what had happened at the time, since he was exhausted and caught up in the post-match buzz. But once the video spread, he took to Instagram with a heartfelt post asking for help to identify and locate the young fan.
In his message, Majchrzak explained that thanks to his sponsor, he had more than enough caps to share, and he promised to make it right. Within hours, the internet came together, and the boy—identified as Brock—was tracked down. Majchrzak then posted a follow-up video showing their reunion at Flushing Meadows.

The clip showed the tennis star warmly greeting the boy, handing over a fresh cap, and giving him a goodie bag filled with signed items. Brock’s smile said it all. He proudly placed the cap on his head while Majchrzak posed for pictures with him and his family. The video quickly became another viral moment, this time for all the right reasons.
Meanwhile, the man who took the cap did not escape attention. Online sleuths identified him as Piotr Szczerek, a wealthy Polish businessman and CEO of the paving company Drogbruk. Szczerek, who has ties to Polish tennis and even sponsors players, was harshly criticized online after the footage circulated. Many users on Polish forums condemned his actions, calling him selfish and classless. Reports say he later deactivated his social media accounts after the backlash.
Majchrzak, however, tried to smooth over the situation by saying it might have been a misunderstanding in the heat of the moment. Still, the star emphasized that the important part was finding the boy and giving him the gift he had intended.
In the end, what began as a sour incident turned into a heartwarming example of sportsmanship. Thanks to the power of the internet, a disappointed young fan became the center of a special moment with his tennis hero. As Majchrzak wrote alongside the video, “Hello world, together with Brock we wish you a great day.”
It was a reminder that while mistakes can happen, kindness and effort can restore the joy that sports are meant to bring.
