Tron: Ares Ride Overlay Brings Bold New Look to TRON Attractions
Fans of Disney’s TRON universe are about to experience something electrifying. A brand-new ride overlay called Tron: Ares has been announced for both TRON Lightcycle / Run at Walt Disney World Resort and TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai Disney Resort. This limited-time transformation has been designed to celebrate the upcoming release of Tron: Ares , the highly anticipated third film in the franchise.
Instead of the familiar blue and orange glow of the Grid, guests will now race through twisting tunnels illuminated by bold streaks of red and orange light. The redesign offers more than just new colors—every moment is powered by a fresh surge of energy, with the visuals and soundscape pulling riders deeper into a battle between the digital world and reality. The adrenaline rush of competing in a high-speed Lightcycle race remains, but the atmosphere is darker, more intense, and distinctly tied to the upcoming film.

This new overlay was revealed by actress Yvette Nicole Brown during the Walt Disney Studios showcase at Destination D23. The announcement was met with excitement, as fans of the franchise had been speculating about how Disney would connect the parks to the next chapter in the TRON saga. Now, they won’t just be watching the story unfold on screen—they’ll be riding directly into it.
One of the most striking changes comes from the soundtrack. Industrial rock legends Nine Inch Nails, led by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, have created a soundscape that pulses with synths, distorted textures, and haunting melodies. Their music doesn’t just accompany the ride—it drives it. Every surge of acceleration and every turn through the Grid feels amplified by the raw, industrial energy. Fans already got a taste of this with the release of the track As Alive as You Need Me to Be , a preview of the sonic world that will define Tron: Ares .
The timing of the overlay ties directly into the film’s debut. Tron: Ares releases in theaters on October 10, 2025, bringing audiences back into the world where technology, identity, and reality collide. This installment introduces Ares, a powerful, self-aware program sent into the real world on a mission that could change both realms forever. The film features Jared Leto as Ares, alongside returning legend Jeff Bridges, with Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Cameron Monaghan rounding out the cast. Directed by Joachim Rønning, known for big Disney adventures, the movie promises both spectacle and depth.
Guests can experience the Tron: Ares ride overlay starting September 15 at Magic Kingdom and September 16 at Shanghai Disneyland. For fans of TRON, it’s not just a ride and not just a movie—it’s a fully connected experience where the digital frontier bursts into life.
