Two EasyJet Planes Clip Wings at Manchester Airport, Causing Delays
This morning, passengers at Manchester Airport witnessed an unusual and unsettling event — two easyJet planes clipped wings on the runway, prompting a brief suspension of flights. The incident happened while both aircraft were taxiing to the runway, ready for their early departures. One was scheduled to head to Gibraltar, flight U22267, and the other to Paris, flight U22117, both departing from Terminal One at around 6:15am.
Eyewitnesses described hearing a loud impact before realizing the two aircraft had made contact. One passenger, who was preparing to fly to Marbella, said another plane had “hit our wing and took the wing off.” Photos and online posts later showed that one of the planes had part of its wing tip missing, confirming visible damage.
As a safety precaution, all flights at the airport were temporarily halted while checks were carried out on the runway. Emergency vehicles were quickly on the scene, and the airport’s operational teams worked to ensure there was no further risk to passengers or other aircraft. While services have now resumed, passengers have been told to expect delays as the schedule recovers from the disruption.

Neither of the planes involved will be leaving Manchester today, and easyJet has stated that alternative arrangements will be made for everyone affected. The airline confirmed that “two aircraft came into contact whilst taxiing” and that an immediate investigation is underway to determine the cause. They stressed that passenger and crew safety remains their highest priority.
Social media posts from those at the airport captured the confusion and tension of the moment. One user noted that emergency vehicles were stationed near the affected planes, holding up others waiting to take off.
Interestingly, the event follows another recent disruption at Norwich Airport, where an unrelated incident had shut down operations earlier in the week. While that situation involved a reported “accident” with bent propellers and possible landing gear issues, no official confirmation was given on whether it was a crash or mechanical malfunction.
In Manchester’s case, while the phrase “plane crash” has appeared in headlines, the reality is more a case of unfortunate wing contact than a full-scale collision. Still, any incident involving aircraft on a runway is treated with the utmost seriousness, and the investigation’s findings will be closely watched by aviation authorities.
For now, travellers are being advised to check with their airlines before heading to the airport, especially if they are flying with easyJet today. While operations are mostly back to normal, the knock-on effects of this morning’s disruption could continue throughout the day.
