Ange Postecoglou set to take over at Nottingham Forest
Big news is breaking in English football, and it’s all about Ange Postecoglou. The former Tottenham Hotspur manager is now closing in on a move to become the new boss at Nottingham Forest. This comes after Nuno Espirito Santo was dismissed late on Monday night, ending his 21-month spell at the City Ground. Nuno had guided Forest to their best league finish in three decades and even secured European football, but behind the scenes, tensions with owner Evangelos Marinakis were said to have reached breaking point. That left his position untenable, and the club moved quickly to find a successor.
The spotlight has now shifted to Postecoglou. At 60 years old, the Australian coach has been through highs and lows in the Premier League. His time at Tottenham ended in disappointment in the league, where Spurs slumped to 17th place last season, losing 22 matches. Yet, it wasn’t all bad. He managed to deliver something Spurs fans had been dreaming about for 17 years: a major trophy. Under his leadership, Tottenham beat Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao to win the Europa League, giving supporters an unforgettable night. That triumph secured Champions League football, although it wasn’t enough to save his job, and he was sacked just over two weeks later.

The timing is significant: the team sit 10th in the Premier League after three games, and with a trip to Arsenal coming up on Saturday, it is expected that Postecoglou could be in charge by then. If appointed, he would become the eighth permanent manager under Marinakis since 2017—an indication of just how unstable the managerial position has been at the club.
Reactions from supporters have been mixed. Some fans see Postecoglou as an ambitious appointment, pointing to his record of winning trophies wherever he has gone—from Brisbane Roar in Australia, to Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan, to Celtic in Scotland, where he claimed five trophies in just two years. Others, however, are skeptical. Critics argue that his attacking style, while entertaining, leaves defenses exposed. His time in England showed both flashes of brilliance and alarming collapses, leading many to question whether he is the right fit for a Forest squad that Nuno had carefully built.
For the players, the decision seems to have come as a shock. Many are away on international duty and reportedly learned of Nuno’s departure through teammates rather than the club directly. That sense of surprise adds to the uncertainty now hanging over Forest. Still, a new chapter appears ready to begin.
Whether Postecoglou can replicate his silverware-winning track record and push Nottingham Forest forward, or whether this proves another short-lived experiment, only time will tell. But one thing is certain: the next few weeks at the City Ground are going to be watched very closely.
