Anisimova Stuns Swiatek in US Open Revenge Match
Less than two months ago, Amanda Anisimova endured one of the toughest moments of her career. In the Wimbledon final against Iga Swiatek, she was handed a stunning 6-0, 6-0 defeat — a match that lasted under an hour and left her in tears during the trophy ceremony. Fast forward to the U.S. Open in New York, and the script could not have been more different. Anisimova turned that painful memory into fuel, and in front of a roaring Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd, she delivered one of the most meaningful victories of her career. She defeated Swiatek, the No. 2 seed and six-time Grand Slam champion, in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to reach her first U.S. Open semifinal.
For Anisimova, who is just 24 and grew up in Florida after being born in New Jersey, this victory was about much more than advancing in a tournament. It was about redemption. “To come back from Wimbledon like that is really special to me,” she said afterward, smiling as fans cheered her name. The same player who struggled to win even a handful of points at the All England Club was now dictating rallies with clean, powerful groundstrokes. This time, she tallied 23 winners and only 12 unforced errors — numbers that showed a poise and control missing in their previous encounter.

But instead of collapsing, she broke back immediately and shifted the tone of the match. Her flat, hard shots pushed Swiatek onto the defensive, and slowly the frustration began to show on the Polish star’s face. Swiatek, who had triumphed in this same tournament back in 2022, slumped her shoulders and glanced at her coach, searching for answers that never came.
The second set brought another test. Anisimova fell behind 2-0, but she steadied herself again, stormed back, and left Swiatek increasingly unsettled. The pivotal moment came late in the set when Swiatek double-faulted to give Anisimova a 5-3 lead. With the chance to serve for the match, Anisimova kept her composure and closed it out. The crowd erupted as she raised her arms in triumph, a complete contrast to her heartbreak in July.
Now, Anisimova stands just one step away from a second straight major final. She will next face either Naomi Osaka, who is making a strong comeback of her own, or Karolina Muchova. Regardless of what happens next, this victory will be remembered as a powerful turning point. What looked like a crushing career setback at Wimbledon has been transformed into the foundation for one of her greatest triumphs. And in her own words, “Playing here is so freaking special, and I’ve been having the run of my life here.”
