Aston Villa Seal Lindelof Deal, Close in on Elliott and Sancho

Big moves have been made at Aston Villa right on transfer deadline day. The club have officially signed Victor Lindelof, the experienced Swedish defender who recently left Manchester United. At the same time, Villa are very close to securing loan deals for Harvey Elliott from Liverpool and Jadon Sancho from Manchester United, which could make this one of the most exciting windows in their recent history.

Lindelof, now 31 and captain of Sweden, was a free agent after his contract with United expired in the summer. He had spent eight seasons at Old Trafford following his move from Benfica back in 2017. During that time, he made almost 300 appearances and even scored against Villa once in a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford. His time with United came to a natural end, but Villa wasted no time in snapping him up on a two-year deal. It’s seen as a solid piece of business, especially given his leadership qualities and vast Premier League experience. Lindelof is already expected to slot straight into Unai Emery’s defensive plans and could even make his debut against Everton after the international break.

But Lindelof isn’t the only headline. Aston Villa are pushing through late moves for both Harvey Elliott and Jadon Sancho. Elliott, who is just 22, has struggled for minutes at Liverpool this season—he’s only had a single one-minute appearance so far. Yet, he’s widely regarded as one of England’s brightest young midfielders. He shone at the European Under-21 Championship this summer, where he was named player of the tournament and scored five goals. RB Leipzig had serious interest in taking him to Germany, but Villa have convinced him instead, with a loan deal that comes with a £35 million obligation to buy. That’s being described as a real coup for Villa, given Elliott’s huge potential.

As for Sancho, the winger has been at a crossroads for some time. After stints on loan at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea, neither club committed to making the deal permanent. In fact, Chelsea even had to pay United a penalty fee for backing out of an obligation to sign him. Now, Sancho finds himself at Villa Park on the verge of another fresh start. He is 25 and still has plenty to prove. Villa will cover 80% of his wages, with achievable bonuses likely taking it up to 100%. It’s a deal that shows faith but also underlines the need for Sancho to deliver consistently.

Altogether, these moves mark a real statement from Aston Villa. Lindelof brings defensive steel, Elliott adds youthful creativity in midfield, and Sancho, if he clicks, can provide flair and goals from the wing. For a club already looking to establish itself among the Premier League’s elite, this deadline day could be remembered as a major turning point.
