Highway 401 Shut Down After Tanker Crash Near Avenue Road
Late Friday night, Highway 401 in Toronto turned into a scene of chaos after a serious crash involving multiple vehicles and a tanker truck. Both the eastbound and westbound express lanes near Avenue Road were forced to close, leaving drivers stranded and emergency crews scrambling to respond.
According to provincial police, the crash happened in the westbound lanes just after 11 p.m. The exact number of vehicles involved hasn’t been confirmed, and details about the causes remain unclear. But what was immediately obvious was the severity of the situation. Photos taken at the scene show the tanker truck lying on its side, blocking a wide stretch of the highway. Its cab was badly damaged, and what looked like liquid from its load had spilled across the pavement, creating a hazardous mess.

The force of the crash was so strong that a concrete barrier separating the express lanes was broken apart. Large chunks of concrete were scattered onto the eastbound lanes, adding another layer of danger and making the closure of both directions unavoidable.
