Jerry Jones Reveals Jets Were in Mix for Micah Parsons Trade

So here’s a story that almost changed the entire look of two NFL teams. Jerry Jones, the outspoken owner of the Dallas Cowboys, admitted that he reached out to the New York Jets earlier this year about a possible blockbuster trade involving Micah Parsons. Yes, Micah Parsons — the two-time All-Pro pass rusher who is now terrorizing quarterbacks in a Green Bay Packers uniform.

According to Jones, the Jets were contacted because he believed they might have what the Cowboys wanted in return: a dominant interior defensive lineman. And naturally, that pointed directly at Quinnen Williams, one of the best at his position. When pressed on whether Williams was the piece he wanted, Jones didn’t dodge it. He flat-out confirmed that the Cowboys’ interest revolved around acquiring a significant inside presence to help stop the run, something Dallas had struggled with for years.

But here’s the kicker — the Jets, as Jones put it, just didn’t have the “resources” to make it happen. Essentially, the price tag was too steep. For Jones, there was no point in continuing talks unless a dominant defensive tackle came back his way. Without that piece, the deal wasn’t even considered. So while the idea of Parsons suiting up in green was floated, it never got past that brief phone call.

Instead, the Cowboys eventually found their match in the Packers. Dallas sent Parsons to Green Bay and, in return, landed two first-round draft picks along with Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark. That move gave the Cowboys the interior strength they had been craving, and it kept Parsons in the NFC rather than sending him to a rival conference.

For the Jets, this near-miss might have been a blessing in disguise. Sure, Parsons is a game-changing player, but acquiring him would have cost them Quinnen Williams and valuable draft capital. That kind of move could have undercut their long-term building strategy, especially with quarterback Justin Fields still proving whether he’s the franchise’s future. The Jets weren’t quite ready to go “all-in” for a superstar, and in the end, they avoided the kind of headline-grabbing splash that doesn’t always pay off.

Meanwhile, Parsons is already making his presence felt in Green Bay. In the Packers’ recent 27–18 win over Washington, he recorded eight quarterback pressures, three hits, and half a sack, while helping hold the Commanders to just 230 total yards. Packers fans have quickly embraced him, even chanting “Thank you, Jerry!” at Lambeau Field after the victory.

So while the Jets could have landed one of the league’s best defensive players, they stood pat. Jones made the call, but the resources weren’t there. Parsons ended up in Wisconsin, and the NFL landscape shifted in a completely different direction.
