Maxx Rolls Out Free 5G Upgrade for SIM-Only Plans in Singapore
A big step has just been taken in Singapore’s mobile market—Maxx, the budget-friendly arm of M1, has announced that all of its SIM-only plans priced at S$10 and above will now include 5G at no additional cost. This is being introduced as part of a limited-time offer, and both new and existing customers are being covered. It’s a move that puts faster, more reliable connectivity into the hands of everyday users, while keeping affordability at the center of things.
The decision to upgrade Maxx’s SIM-only plans to 5G is being framed as part of a larger commitment by M1 to ensure that a high-quality data experience is not limited to premium tiers. The network is powered by M1’s ultra-fast 5G infrastructure, which has consistently been ranked among the best in Singapore. In practice, that means smoother streaming, faster downloads, and a more stable mobile experience whether users are at home, at work, or traveling within coverage areas.

For as little as S$10 per month, subscribers are being given access to what used to be considered a luxury feature. That S$10 Maxx plan itself is quite generous—it includes 400GB of local data in Singapore and Malaysia, 16GB of roaming data spread across Asia-Pacific and international destinations, up to 300 IDD minutes, 500 local outgoing call minutes, unlimited incoming calls, and 50 local SMS. With the addition of 5G, the value of this entry-level package is being dramatically enhanced.
Customers are being guided through a simple process to check if they are ready for 5G. By going into the Maxx App, they can tap on “Account” and select “Check Your 5G Readiness” to see if their handset, SIM, and plan meet the requirements. Upgrading is straightforward too. Those who prefer an eSIM can handle the switch directly within the app under “SIM Management.” Others who want a physical 5G SIM can head to an M1 shop or one of the roadshow exchange locations.
The message from Maxx is clear: this is about making next-generation connectivity accessible to everyone. By extending 5G to affordable SIM-only plans, the company is ensuring that speed and reliability are not restricted to top-tier contracts. It also aligns with M1’s long history of innovation in Singapore’s telecom scene. Since its founding in 1997, M1 has been first to market with several major technologies, including nationwide 4G and high-speed broadband.
Now, with 5G being offered at no extra cost on Maxx’s most affordable plans, the landscape for mobile users is shifting again. Everyday consumers are being invited to experience the benefits of faster connectivity without having to worry about higher bills. For M1, this marks another milestone in shaping Singapore’s digital future—one where accessibility and innovation go hand in hand.
