It was a big night on My Kitchen Rules , and it all came down to the power of family, tradition, and food cooked with love. Anne and Maree, a mother–daughter duo, decided to lean on something truly special — their late Yia-yia’s treasured recipe book. And that choice didn’t just pay off, it created one of the most memorable moments of the season so far, with the pair walking away with the very first perfect 10.

From the start, Anne set the tone for the evening by welcoming everyone warmly, saying, “Tonight you are family, we are going to feed you like family.” That sense of hospitality was carried straight into the kitchen, where she and Maree worked from their grandmother’s handwritten notes, balancing heritage and heart in every dish.

The first course, Chargrilled Octopus with Spanakorizo, was a showstopper. Judge Colin Fassnidge described it as being “seasoned with love” and praised the perfect texture. He went so far as to award the dish a perfect 10, the first of the competition. Manu Feildel was almost as impressed, scoring it a nine but suggesting a squeeze of lemon could have lifted it further. That opening dish set the bar sky-high and instantly made the table sit up and take notice.

But not everything was smooth sailing. The main course of Chicken and Lamb Souvlakia, served with pita and tzatziki, didn’t quite hit the same heights. Manu felt there were too many elements competing for attention, and Colin agreed, remarking that sometimes less is more. A halloumi substitution, meant to accommodate a contestant’s non-meat preference, backfired with its chalky texture and left both judges and diners underwhelmed.

Then came dessert: Orange Semolina Cake with Chocolate and Candied Orange. This was deeply sentimental for Anne, being one of the very first recipes her mother had taught her. Colin liked the lightness but thought it needed more zest, while Manu questioned whether it was truly competition-worthy. Both judges gave it a six.

In the end, Anne and Maree secured a total of 78 points out of 110, putting them at the top of the leaderboard and making their late grandmother’s recipes part of MKR history.

Of course, it wouldn’t be My Kitchen Rules without a bit of drama at the table. What began as a playful exchange between Rielli and Mel quickly spiraled, with a butter knife joke taken the wrong way. Tears were shed, apologies were made, but the tension lingered throughout the night. Michael jumped to defend Rielli, calling out Mel and Jacinta as “sooks” and vowing to always have Rielli’s back.

Despite the drama, the night belonged to Anne and Maree. Their heartfelt food, guided by Yia-yia’s handwritten recipes, didn’t just impress — it earned them a place in the season’s spotlight with that all-important first perfect 10. And with the competition heating up, all eyes now turn to the next team to see if anyone else can match it.
