College football fans couldn’t have asked for a better early-season showdown than the one set for this weekend in Miami Gardens. On Saturday, the fifth-ranked Miami Hurricanes will host the No. 18 South Florida Bulls at Hard Rock Stadium, and the matchup has quickly become one of the most anticipated games of September.
Miami and South Florida may not have the longest rivalry in college football, but the stakes are sky-high. Miami leads the all-time series 6–1, including a dominant 50–15 win in Tampa last season. But this year feels different. USF is rolling into town with back-to-back upset victories over Boise State and Florida, earning its first spot in the AP Top 25 since 2018. Across the field, USF has its own star in quarterback Byrum Brown. Known for his deep-ball accuracy and mobility, Brown has been nearly flawless, setting a school record by attempting 240 passes without an interception. He’s thrown for 473 yards and rushed for another 109, showing a knack for creating big plays in crucial moments. His ability to spark the Bulls’ offense, particularly in the third quarter, has been a defining factor. Since the start of 2024, USF holds a remarkable +90 point differential in the third quarter, and that trend has carried over into this season.
