NFL Week 1 Inactives and Injury Updates You Need to Know

Hey everyone, let’s talk about some of the big news coming out of the NFL as Week 1 kicks off. It’s been a busy day with a lot of injuries and player updates that could impact how games play out across the league. So, let’s break it down in a way that’s easy to follow.

Starting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they’re going into their matchup against the Atlanta Falcons without several key players. Wide receiver Chris Godwin, cornerbacks Benjamin Morrison and Kindle Vildor, offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs, safety Christian Izien, tight end Devin Culp, and running back Josh Williams have all been ruled out. On the Falcons’ side, defensive end Sam Roberts, wide receiver Darnell Mooney, cornerback Clark Phillips III, safety DeMarcco Hellams, running back Nate Carter, linebacker Josh Woods, and offensive tackle Jack Nelson won’t be playing either. So, both teams will be adjusting their lineups significantly.

Over in Cleveland, the Bengals will be without cornerback Marco Wilson, center Matt Lee, wide receiver Jermaine Burton, tight end Cam Grandy, and defensive tackles McKinnley Jackson and Howard Cross III. Meanwhile, the Browns have listed quarterback Shedeur Sanders as an emergency third QB, along with defensive tackle Mike Hall, guard Zak Zinter, offensive tackle KT Leveston, and wide receiver Gage Larvadain as inactive.

In Indianapolis, the Dolphins will miss running back Jaylen Wright, quarterback Quinn Ewers, cornerback Ethan Bonner, offensive tackle Kendall Lamm, tight end Darren Waller, wide receiver Tahj Washington, and defensive tackle Zeek Biggers. The Colts will also have several players out, including quarterback Riley Leonard, running back Tyler Goodson, cornerback Johnathan Edwards, linebacker Chad Muma, offensive tackle Luke Tenuta, tight end Will Mallory, and defensive end JT Tuimoloau.

Some other notable absences include Christian McCaffrey of the 49ers, who was questionable due to a calf injury but is now expected to play against the Seattle Seahawks. This is a relief considering McCaffrey missed most of the 2024 season with multiple injuries, including a PCL issue and Achilles concerns. He’s been careful during practice this week, skipping some sessions but participating enough to be cleared for game day.

The Steelers, Giants, Raiders, Patriots, Cardinals, Saints, and several other teams also have players sidelined, with emergency quarterbacks or key position players listed as inactive. The impact of these absences will definitely shake up game plans, especially in matchups where teams are already closely matched.

Additionally, the Lions have made headlines with wide receiver Jameson Williams signing a three-year extension worth up to $83 million, while the Steelers have revised Cameron Heyward’s contract to include $3.2 million in incentives for 2025. And of course, we saw the Chargers beat the Chiefs 27-21 in Brazil, with quarterback Justin Herbert putting in a standout performance.

So, whether it’s injuries, contract updates, or international games, Week 1 is already shaping up to be full of storylines that will affect teams right out of the gate. Keep an eye on these players, because their absences or returns could be the difference in some very close games.

This is NFL Week 1, and the action is just getting started.
