Packers Stay Hot With Win Over Commanders on Thursday Night Football
The Green Bay Packers were right back in action just four days after their big win over the Detroit Lions, and this time all eyes were on Lambeau Field for Thursday Night Football. Hosting the Washington Commanders in Week 2, the Packers showed no signs of slowing down, securing a 27-18 victory and moving to 2-0 on the season. This marked the team’s first 2-0 start since 2020, giving fans plenty of reasons to believe this group might be ready for a serious run.
The night once again belonged to Jordan Love, who threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns while keeping the offense steady despite missing two starting linemen, Zach Tom and Aaron Banks. Love’s performance was highlighted by his connection with tight end Tucker Kraft, who had a career night. Kraft hauled in six catches for 124 yards, including an eight-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that sealed the game and shut down Washington’s comeback hopes. Earlier, Love had opened the scoring with a short touchdown pass to Romeo Doubs, setting the tone early.

Green Bay’s offense wasn’t just about the passing attack. Running back Josh Jacobs contributed an important two-yard touchdown run in the first half, finishing the game with 84 yards on 23 carries. Those steady gains helped keep the Packers balanced and gave Love opportunities to open up the passing game.
For Washington, the night was more frustrating than rewarding. The Commanders managed only 11 yards in the first quarter and didn’t reach the end zone until the final period. Quarterback Jayden Daniels finished with 200 passing yards and two late touchdown throws, one to Zach Ertz and another to Deebo Samuel. By then, however, the deficit was too much to overcome. Adding to the team’s concerns, running back Austin Ekeler suffered an Achilles injury in the fourth quarter, and defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. was carted off earlier with a leg injury. Those setbacks could linger well beyond this game.
One of the more telling stats of the night was Washington’s history at Lambeau Field. The Commanders have not beaten the Packers on the road since 1988, and Thursday’s loss extended Green Bay’s home dominance in this matchup. The Packers built a 14-3 halftime lead with two long touchdown drives, including a 96-yard series that featured a highlight-reel 57-yard completion to Kraft and a gutsy scramble by Love.
Washington’s kicker Matt Gay did manage a 51-yard field goal, but also missed two long attempts. By the time Samuel’s late touchdown closed the gap, the game had already slipped away.
For Green Bay, the win reinforced their strong start to the season, and with Love’s growing confidence under center, fans in Wisconsin are starting to feel something special building again at Lambeau. Washington, meanwhile, heads back home at 1-1, nursing both injuries and disappointment after running into a Packers team that looks determined to keep winning.
