Packers Stay Perfect with Win Over Commanders
The Green Bay Packers kept their momentum rolling with a strong 27-18 win over the Washington Commanders on Thursday night, continuing what has been one of their most promising starts in years. With this victory, Green Bay has opened the 2025 NFL season at 2-0, their first time doing so since 2020.
The story of the night was quarterback Jordan Love, who has been stepping confidently into his role as the leader of this Packers squad. He threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns, completing 19 of 31 passes without turning the ball over. His ability to keep the offense moving, especially in the first half, set the tone. Love even produced more than 200 passing yards before halftime, leading a pair of 90-plus-yard touchdown drives. His accuracy and poise showed that the Packers’ offense isn’t just steady—it’s dangerous.
Running back Josh Jacobs also left his mark, powering into the end zone for a rushing touchdown. That score extended his personal streak to 11 straight games with a rushing touchdown, a mark that underscores both his consistency and the Packers’ commitment to the run game.

There was a setback, however. Wide receiver Jaylen Reed appeared to score on a dramatic 39-yard touchdown play early in the game, only for it to be nullified by a holding penalty. To make matters worse, Reed suffered a broken collarbone on the play, forcing him out of action. It was a tough blow for a young talent who had been expected to play a bigger role this year.
Still, the Packers kept their composure. Love connected with Romeo Doubs for the opening touchdown, followed by Jacobs’ short-yardage run to give Green Bay a 14-0 lead. The Commanders clawed back in the second half with quarterback Jayden Daniels finding Zach Ertz for a 20-yard score, but the Packers responded immediately. Tight end Tucker Kraft hauled in a touchdown and finished the night with a career-best performance: six catches and 124 yards.
On the defensive side, all eyes were on Micah Parsons, the star pass rusher acquired just weeks ago in a blockbuster trade. His playing time is still being carefully managed, but even in limited snaps, he made an impact—registering half a sack and keeping pressure on Daniels. Parsons emphasized after the game that defense must remain the backbone of this team, noting that even elite quarterbacks can’t overcome defenses that give up 40 points. His presence has already elevated Green Bay’s defensive energy.
The Commanders did manage a late consolation touchdown, with Daniels connecting to Deebo Samuel, but the Packers’ defense once again held firm when it mattered. In fact, for the first time since 1995, Green Bay has allowed fewer than 250 yards in each of their opening two games.
For Packers fans, this is more than just a hot start—it feels like the foundation of something bigger. With Love growing in confidence, Jacobs steady in the backfield, and Parsons adding a championship-caliber edge to the defense, Green Bay is showing early signs of being a true contender. Their next test comes on the road in Cleveland, and soon after, Parsons will face his former team, the Dallas Cowboys.
For now, though, the Packers can savor this win and the sense that something special may be building in Green Bay.
