A major shift is happening at Paramount as the studio prepares to welcome Josh Goldstine as its new global head of marketing and distribution. Although the official announcement hasn’t been made, sources close to the matter have revealed that Goldstine is in final talks to take on the role, signaling yet another executive shakeup under David Ellison’s newly led Paramount.

This move comes right after Marc Weinstock’s exit, who had overseen Paramount’s worldwide marketing and distribution since 2019. During his tenure, Weinstock played a key role in the studio’s biggest box office triumph in recent memory, Top Gun: Maverick , which soared to $1.49 billion globally. But with Ellison pushing for a fresh direction following Paramount’s merger with Skydance, changes at the top have been swift.

For Goldstine, this would be both a new challenge and a return to familiar territory. He’s no stranger to high-stakes studio marketing. At Warner Bros., he was behind massive campaigns like Barbie , which grossed $1.44 billion worldwide, as well as blockbusters from the Dune and Monsterverse franchises. His skill was especially tested during the pandemic, when Warner Bros. tried its bold day-and-date release strategy—dropping films simultaneously in theaters and on streaming. Goldstine was credited with holding campaigns together under that experiment, despite the chaos it brought to the industry.

Before Warner Bros., Goldstine spent years at Universal, where he helped push the studio into one of the most profitable runs in its history. He oversaw campaigns for Jurassic World , the Despicable Me franchise, Get Out , and Furious 7 . In 2015, his team pulled off a record-breaking streak with three films crossing the $1 billion mark in a single year—something no other studio had achieved at that point. And even earlier, at Sony Pictures, Goldstine cut his teeth on campaigns for Spider-Man , Casino Royale , and The Social Network .

His move to Paramount would reunite him with Jeff Shell, Paramount’s current No. 2, with whom he previously worked at Universal. That history hasn’t been without bumps—Goldstine was placed on leave at Universal in 2018 over allegations of misconduct, but he later won a $20 million arbitration case against the studio.

For Paramount, the timing is critical. Ellison and his new co-chairs Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein are reshaping the studio’s identity. With Goldstine likely taking the reins, he won’t just be handling marketing—distribution will fall under his control too, giving him wider influence than ever before.

If finalized, the appointment would mark another bold stroke in Paramount’s ongoing reinvention. And for Hollywood, it means one of the industry’s most seasoned marketing veterans is about to play a major role in shaping how the next wave of blockbusters reaches audiences worldwide.
