Shock and Sorrow as YouTuber Daedo Library Found Dead at Home
The Korean online community and countless fans worldwide have been left in deep shock after the sudden passing of Daedo Library, one of the most influential first-generation YouTubers. His death was confirmed on the morning of September 6th, when police and emergency services were dispatched to his home in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. He was found lifeless after failing to appear at a scheduled appointment, which led a close acquaintance to file a missing report. No signs of foul play or a suicide note were discovered at the scene, leaving many stunned by the abrupt nature of this tragedy. He was only 46 years old.
Daedo Library, whose real name was Na Dong-hyun, was widely recognized as a pioneer in Korea’s digital broadcasting scene. Long before YouTube gained the dominance it has today, he began in 2002 as an internet radio host, helping to reshape the public image of online broadcasting. Later, through his YouTube channel, which amassed over 1.45 million subscribers, he became best known for his gaming content—particularly reaction videos and interactive streams that highlighted his approachable, witty style. For many, his broadcasts were not just entertainment but also a sense of companionship.

His contributions were not limited to the online world. In 2016, he was appointed as a policy advisor to the Korea Communications Commission, reflecting the credibility he had built within the industry. Two years later, he received the Korea Culture and Entertainment Award in the variety newcomer category, further cementing his status as a respected media figure. He also appeared in mainstream broadcasts, including JTBC’s Lan Life: The Way Creators Live in 2018, Netflix’s The Influencer in 2024, and tvN’s Find Super K . These appearances helped bridge the gap between independent creators and traditional broadcasting, showing just how far online content could reach.
On a personal level, Daedo Library was also known for his marriage to fellow creator YoomDdang, which drew public attention as a kind of “creator couple” story. However, after eight years together, the two announced an amicable divorce in 2023. At the time, he openly explained that they separated not because of hostility, but because they realized they worked better as friends rather than as a married couple. His candid honesty won him respect, even in that personal chapter of his life.
The news of his death has triggered an outpouring of grief. Comedian Kim Dae-bum expressed disbelief, describing Daedo Library as someone who remained humble despite his massive following and who generously supported younger creators just starting out. Many others online are sharing similar sentiments, remembering him not just as a famous YouTuber but as a kind and inspiring figure.
His sudden departure has created a silence in a space where his voice once brought laughter and connection. Fans are mourning, colleagues are paying tribute, and the digital world feels undeniably emptier without him. Daedo Library’s legacy, however, will live on through the countless videos, memories, and moments of joy he shared with millions. May he rest in peace.
