Taskin Ahmed’s Four-Wicket Burst Lifts Bangladesh Over Netherlands
Bangladesh got off to a winning start in their T20I series against the Netherlands with an impressive eight-wicket victory, and one of the standout performers was fast bowler Taskin Ahmed. After the match, Taskin admitted that while he was pleased with his progress, he still felt there was some way to go before he could say he was fully back to his best.
Taskin, who is 29 now, has been working his way back from an Achilles injury that kept him out of action for months after the ICC Champions Trophy. That kind of injury can really test a fast bowler, and in his words, it has been about rediscovering rhythm and confidence, step by step. He pointed out that his comeback during the Sri Lanka series hadn’t gone as smoothly as he hoped, but with more hard work in training and matches, his rhythm has been improving.

He explained that his focus isn’t only on bowling fast, but on adapting to situations. Against the Netherlands, he bowled in different phases — the opening overs, the middle spell, and also at the death. According to him, the challenge was to execute the right variations depending on the moment, and this time he felt he managed to do that well. In T20 cricket, even good deliveries can sometimes be punished, but Taskin was satisfied with how his plans came together.
The conditions also brought an unexpected twist. Dew played a big role in the game, something Taskin admitted had caught the team by surprise. Usually in the Bangladesh Premier League, dew is common in the winter evenings, but he hadn’t expected so much of it in warmer weather. That made things tricky, but as he put it, weather can’t be controlled, only adapted to.
Of course, Taskin wasn’t the only one contributing. Bangladesh’s captain Litton Das anchored the batting with a solid fifty, while all-rounder Saif Hassan shone both with ball and bat. First, Saif took two crucial wickets in the powerplay to put the Netherlands on the back foot, and later, after being promoted to number four, he smashed an unbeaten 36 off just 19 balls to seal the win.
Taskin praised his teammate’s all-round show, pointing out that every series is about not just winning, but also avoiding mistakes that have cost the team in the past. He emphasized that the current focus in training is very specific — each player is working on individual areas of improvement rather than just following a routine.
For Taskin, this match was more than just numbers on a scorecard. It was a step forward in his journey back to full pace and confidence. He knows the road ahead is long, but performances like this one against the Netherlands have reminded fans — and perhaps himself — that he is getting there, one spell at a time.
