Tragedy Strikes at Sky Meadow Country Club Wedding
What was supposed to be a joyful evening of celebration at the Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, New Hampshire, turned into a night of chaos and heartbreak. Guests had gathered for a wedding, filling the room with laughter, music, and dancing, when the unthinkable happened. Gunfire suddenly rang out, and within moments, a man was dead, two others were wounded, and the entire event was thrown into panic.
Witnesses recalled that, at first, many thought the noises were part of the wedding festivities. The DJ had even warned guests that they might hear loud sounds from a Greek tradition involving the breaking of plates. But instead of cheers and clapping, the sound that followed was gunshots. People scattered, ducked under tables, and rushed toward exits in fear.

According to reports, the suspect—23-year-old Hunter Nadeau—was quickly taken into custody at the scene. Authorities say he opened fire inside the club’s restaurant, fatally shooting 59-year-old Robert Steven DeCesare and injuring two other adults. Investigators have stated there is no known connection between the shooter and DeCesare. Still, the violence was deliberate, with one witness saying the attacker appeared to be targeting someone while shouting, “Free Palestine.”
The tragedy grew even heavier when DeCesare’s mother, Evie O’Rourke, revealed what happened in his final moments. She explained that her son had been having dinner with family when the gunman entered and fired at the maître d’. Without hesitation, DeCesare stepped between the bullets and his loved ones. His instinct, she said, was to protect his family, even at the cost of his own life. With his daughter’s wedding just six weeks away, his loss is being felt even more deeply.
Guests described a scene of terror as people rushed for safety. Some took cover in the kitchen, while others ran outside. At least one man confronted the shooter with a chair, forcing him to drop his weapon before he fled into another part of the building, where he was later captured.
Authorities confirmed Nadeau has been charged with second-degree murder, and additional charges are expected for the other victims. Investigators are still working to determine a motive, though the outburst of political slogans during the attack has raised questions.
For many who were there, the night will be remembered not only for the fear but also for the bravery shown in the face of violence. A community is now mourning a man who gave his life to shield his family, and a wedding that should have been remembered for love and joy will instead be marked by sorrow. The case will continue to unfold in the courts, but for those touched by this tragedy, the pain is already etched deeply into their lives.
